Written for Tongue Tied Magazine, August 2022
Taking her identity of middle child to a new level, the New Jersey-native, now LA-based, Maddy Davis has just released her latest single, “Sally! I Met A Boy”. While most middle kids are known as the forgotten ones, Maddy is making sure that her music and talent rises above the rest.

“Sally! I Met A Boy” is an angsty track at its core, but the lyrics tell a relatable story of a fairy tale romance brought to life. This is the third single we’ve heard from Maddy, giving us a better look into who she is as an artist. Her songs are full of authenticity and vulnerabilities, yet stick true to the tangled, indie-rock anthems we all love. Sally, as referenced in the song’s title and lyrics, is Maddy’s older sister; someone she calls regularly to tell her about the relationships she’s found herself to be a part of. From the sounds of this single, Sally has received this call on numerous occasions, hence why she has reason to be skeptical.
“Sally! I Met a Boy” has mixed-in imperfections at just the perfect moments, further pulling the listener in to feel the same emotions and events as Maddy once did. Maddy left these in for a reason, stating “I really wanted emphasis on imperfection in this song, because that’s what this song is about. It’s about being imperfect and never actually knowing what’s best for yourself, and having to admit that to someone close to you.”
In late September, Maddy will be releasing her debut EP titled MUD, which will include “Sally! I Met A Boy” among its six-song tracklist. With the claim to make music for “20 somethings; dreaming big, moving fast, and not letting anyone tell you otherwise”, Maddy’s ambitious talent makes her the perfect candidate for the next generation of young adults looking for an artist to relate to.
