“PYRAMIDS” by BLVCKBOW
Written for Tongue Tied Magazine, March 2022
BLVCKBOW, a Hawaiian duo comprised of Jasmine Crowe and Brittni Paiva, has just released their fifth song, "PYRAMIDS". This is the third release since Crowe and Paiva joined together to create BLVCKBOW, and they are definitely emerging strong with a completely new take on music.
From the very first note, you will realize "PYRAMIDS" is different from anything you've heard lately in mainstream music. It starts off with a powerful melody that reminds you of an island adventure, accompanied with just the right amount of melodic violin. BLVCKBOW's Haiwaiian influence is prominent throughout the entirety of the song and plays on the idea that while Crowe and Paiva have their own individual career paths, they are stronger as a duo.
The sultry voice draws you in and "PYRAMIDS" colorful, illustrating lyrics keep you hooked until the very last beat. It's so hard to choose a favorite point in this song, but the lyrics that intrigue me the most come from the pre-chorus, "The skies turn black and then / Miles high / You wondering / It's like we're alien / We on top / Like the kings / Like the gods". This truly illustrates the bond that BLVCKBOW has, it’s more powerful than the supernatural, royalty, or beliefs.
I enjoyed “PYRAMIDS” so much that I decided to listen to previous releases of BLVCKBOW’s and would definitely recommend other tracks. “Second Nature” has a similar Hawaiian, island-like vibe, but with a smooth, calmer melody. Looking forward to future releases from BLVCKBOW!
