Nox Holloway, a pop-alternative duo from Nashville, TN, have just released their newest single "Parachute". Very quickly you'll find this track to be reminiscent of early Twenty One Pilots, with an upbeat sound and a catchy ukulele melody; but if you listen closely to the lyrics there is a hidden message that has the complete opposite feeling.

"Parachute" is about taking a chance with fate in whatever situation you might find yourself faced with. While you hope there is a safety net in place, hence the title of "Parachute", that isn't always the case. Some of my favorite lyrics in this single are "And I know it's too late / To apply for a new fate", implying that everything in life has a purpose and if it's meant to be it will be. This isn't always the outcome we want to see in life, but sometimes there really is no way to change the future.

I particularly enjoy how the beginning of "Parachute" begins with subtle sounds of nature - chirping birds and smooth, running water. This is a perfect touch to the track and really plays on the natural and light tone that the vocals in this track provide. Nox Holloway - comprised of Bryce Vanhook and Parker Mathews - share "‘Parachute’ was one of the first songs we made after moving to Nashville in 2021, so it kind of encapsulates the feeling of taking a leap without knowing exactly where or how you’ll land. Conceptually it also serves as the entry point to the narrative world we’re creating with these next releases, so we’re super excited for everyone to be a part of that as well."

"Parachute" is only the band's second release of 2022 and while they will be busy touring and opening for Betcha and Arlie in May, I hope we will hear more from Nox Holloway in the months to come.
