This track is a four minute ballad about being stuck within the confinements of a relationship and how to overcome them after it has ended. I wouldn't necessarily consider this a break up song, but one of power and individualism. Emma's sultry voice is calm and cool, proving how strong her sense of control is. She isn't angry, she isn't out for revenge, she's just here to prove that she no longer needs her ex-partner and is ready to become a bigger person than they could ever be.
My favorite lyrics in the song are "Oh I guess I just wanted to tell you / I freed myself of all your latches / I lit the fire without your matches / I found the light without your sun / and I finally accepted that you will never be the one". If you haven't experienced this feeling after a relationship, then you have not been able to experience true independence. "Lit the Fire" talks about a partner who crossed boundaries, tore down the one person they were supposed to build up, and proved why they should have never been "the one" in the first place; unfortunately, love can be blinding.
With passion-filled lyrics, Emma Campbell is releasing music that is vulnerable and is spelling out the emotions some of us can't even begin to express with words. If you are a fan of Olivia Rodrigo's SOUR but are looking for something with a little less rage, then this track - along with Emma's other songs - is the one for you.
