“Every Now And Then” by Dear Spring
Written for Tongue Tied Magazine, April 2022
The moment I finished Dear Spring’s latest single, “Every Now And Then”, I came to one conclusion … there is not enough pop punk in the world right now. Bands like Meet Me @ The Altar, Magnolia Park, jxdn, and now Dear Spring (consisting of David Colon-Margolies (vocals, guitar), Martin McAlister (drums), Jonah Tenney (vocals), and Kamran Hassan (guitar, vocals) are bringing back the true nature of pop punk as we used to know it, think circa the Warped Tour Days.
“Every Now And Then” represents the struggle we face during the past (Every Now) and the future (And Then). I feel like a lot of great artists have found the themes of time and change to be very prominent in their songs right now. Maybe the last few years have provided a better insight to what we missed, what we could have done differently, and how we take all of that to become a better version of ourselves. In this track, the now and the then are almost like the Angel and Devil we see on our shoulders, who do we ignore and who do we let lead us?
This song is filled with domineering guitar strings, catchy lyrics, and is overall a powerful pop-punk anthem. In relation to the release of this single, Dear Spring has announced that they are now signed with Open Your Ears Records, an independent record label out of Richmond, Virginia. These Washington, D.C. natives have marked a new era in their music and I'm happy to be a part of the ride.
