“After Effects” by Jzzy
Written for Tongue Tied Magazine, June 2022
If there’s one trend I’ve noticed as the music scene is warming back up from its COVID-19 induced hiatus, it’s that POP PUNK IS NOT DEAD!
19-year old Jasmine Mohammed, aka Jzzy, is bringing all of the angsty, teen emotion to the forefront of today’s music scene andis making sure we stay tuned into her every note. Her latest release, “After Effects'' is an eruptive single about the scars and betrayal of past friendships. It can be so hard to put these emotions into words. Sometimes trauma seems like too big of a topic to face but “After Effects” is the perfect way to describe it. It’s no secret that as you grow up you’ll gain and lose friends like clockwork, and while some of them simply fade away, others appear as though they were destined to stab you in the back.
This track feels one you’d need to experience during the turning point of your life. When you’re finally ready to say good-bye, “After Effects” is waiting for you to turn the volume all the way up and scream your heart out. The louder you go the more you can feel the drumline pulse through your body, the melodies circle your head, and the pain you once let consume you suddenly evaporate.
Jzzy’s music continues to improve with each release. Her heavy-hitting lyrics and cut-throat vocals are going to take her far. If you’re into the music of Avril Lavigne, Sizzy Rocket, or the pop-punk veterans Paramore, Jzzy is an artist you will want to keep on your radar. I think we are going to see a huge pop-punk revival soon and Jzzy could very easily be the face of this revolution.
